Segment 1 — Welcome
This is the eight-hour prelicensing class from Idaho Dealer School. Before ITD issues your first dealer license, Idaho law says you have to finish this class and pass its written exam. The certificate you earn at the end goes into your application packet.
Segment 2 — What stops a first license
Picture an applicant who finishes the packet and mails it to ITD. The bond printout inside was right once, but it still shows last year's address, and nothing else in the packet does. The file stalls.
Every packet gets checked two ways. Does each document match the others, and is anything missing? Miss either one, and the inspection waits. Pass both, and an ITD investigator comes out to inspect your lot. Pass that, and your license comes in the mail. Most of Module 1 is about getting the packet and the lot right the first time.
Segment 3 — How this course works
The course has five modules. Module 1 is Idaho dealer licensing law. Module 2 is titles, transfers, records, and disclosures. Module 3 is ethics, dealer practices, and advertising. Module 4 is the federal forms and rules. Module 5 follows one used vehicle from the auction lane to the closed deal jacket. Modules 1 to 4 each end with a short quiz, and a final exam closes the course. The exam rules and the course disclaimer are on your screen. In short, this course is general education, not legal advice, and fees, bond amounts, and insurance minimums change, so confirm each one on the current ITD form before you rely on it.
